Who’s ready for TV’s biggest night?
The 2024 Emmys are this weekend and Hollywood’s primetime stars are gearing up for the illustrious event.
From the when and how to watch to this year’s hottest contenders, here’s a run down of what you can expect for Sunday’s show.
When will the 2024 Emmys take place?
The 76th annual event is set to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday September 15 at 8pm EST. This comes just 8 months after the previous ceremony, which was on January 15 following a delay due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in the summer and early fall of 2023.
How can I watch?
ABC will air the ceremony live on the network, but you can also tune in via streaming with apps like Sling, Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV.
Who is the host of this year’s Emmys?
The much-anticipated show will be hosted by father-son duo, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy. The pair are no strangers to the award show — their Canadian comedy, “Schitt’s Creek,” swept the comedy categories in 2020.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the pair said in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all.”
Last year, Anthony Anderson took the stage as the host for the evening. Before him Kenan Thompson, Cedric the Entertainer and Jimmy Kimmel have served as master of ceremonies in the recent past.
What shows have the most nominations?
Leading the nominations is popular drama series “Shōgun,” pulling in a whopping 25 nods. The series, adapted from James Clavell’s novel about feudal Japan, already dominated at the Creative Arts Emmys last weekend, taking home 14 wins.
Not far behind is FX’s “The Bear,” with an impressive 23 nominations. The dramedy, led by Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri, made history this year as the most-nominated comedy series. “Only Murders in the Building,” “Hacks” and “Abbott Elementary” are also nominated in several categories.
Some breakout series with multiple nominations include “Fallout,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” and the final season of “The Crown.”
Who are the presenters?
Some nominees will be on double duty at the ceremony. Presenters include Kristen Wiig, Christine Baranski, Matt Bomer, Lily Gladstone, Selena Gomez, Jimmy Kimmel, Greta Lee, Jane Lynch, Maya Rudolph and Steve Martin.
Any special appearances?
Jesse Collins Entertainment, the company that produced both Emmy awards ceremony in 2024, says viewers can expect to celebrate “SNL’s” 50th anniversary, “Happy Days” and “characters you’ve loved over the years.”
“We want to celebrate ‘SNL’s’ 50th — we got a great moment there,” Jesse Collins told TheWrap.
EP Dionne Harmon added, “We loved the nostalgia of January’s show, and we wanted to bring that spirit to the show on Sunday without doing the exact same thing, so we’re really celebrating the characters that you’ve loved over the years, whether that’s TV moms, TV dads or villains,” Harmon said calling the tribute a “love letter to television.”
