Ex-Rangers star Kyle Hutton arrested as woman dies days after being hit by car near Glasgow

AN EX-RANGERS star has been arrested following the death of a Scots woman who passed away in hospital four days after being hit by a car.

The 33-year-old footballer was nicked in connection with road traffic offences after his orange Mitsubishi L200 pickup allegedly struck a female pedestrian on Saturday night.

Former Rangers midfielder Kyle Hutton was due to appear at Glasgow Sherriff Court on Monday.

He is alleged to have hit Victoria Cairns, 40, from Glasgow on Farmeloan Road in Rutherglen on Saturday, November 2.

Emergency services raced to the scene at around 8 pm on Saturday night.

The 40-year-old was blue-lighted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she later died on Wednesday, November 6.

Police are appealing for information following the fatal collision.

Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman at this difficult time. They have asked that their privacy is respected.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and I would again ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.”

A Crown Office spokesperson said: “The Procurator Fiscal received a report concerning a male aged 33 years in connection with an alleged incident on 02/11/2024.

“The accused was liberated from custody and did not appear in court.

“The case against the accused remains live and under consideration.”
