The BMI or Body Mass Index has been a standard measure for estimating our weight and the associated health problems for decades. But that formula is increasingly criticized. Another method, the BRI or Body Roundness Index, is emerging as an alternative. But how do you calculate it? And should the BMI be thrown in the trash? We asked gastrointestinal surgeon Yves Van Nieuwenhove (UZ Gent) and Michaël Sels, chief dietician at UZA.
