Former interim Manchester United boss Ruud van Nistelrooy reportedly applies for a job at a Championship club, just days after his departure from Old Trafford.
Former Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy allegedly has his sights set on a Championship job.
The legendary Dutchman departed his short-term role at Old Trafford earlier this week to make way for new head coach Ruben Amorim.
Although there had been the possibility of the former forward remaining at the Theatre of Dreams in a coaching or mentor capacity, his successor has opted to stick with staff that are familiar to him.
Van Nistelrooy has since commented on his stint at United, thanking his players and the club’s supporters, ahead of assessing his options.
Having recorded three wins and one draw from his four-game tenure, Van Nistelrooy is sure to have admirers in the Premier League and on the continent.
Nevertheless, according to The Mirror, the 48-year-old has chosen to apply for a job in the second tier of English football.
From Manchester to the Midlands?
Van Nistelrooy is said to have thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant position at Coventry City, who recently parted ways with Mark Robins.
A recent report, as confirmed by owner Doug King, claimed that former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is a candidate for the position at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
However, it appears that the Sky Blues hierarchy will be taking their time to assess all suitable candidates before making a final decision, presumably at some point next week before their return to Championship action.
Coventry currently sit in 17th position in the table, albeit having headed into the November international break with a 2-2 draw against leaders Sunderland.

Would Van Nistelrooy remain patient in search for job?
Earlier this week, it was suggested that Van Nistelrooy moving to fellow Championship side Burnley remained a possibility given the Clarets’ indifferent form.
Although Scott Parker has guided Burnley into fourth place, posting just seven wins from 15 league fixtures is far below expectations at Turf Moor.
There is little realistic prospect of Parker being removed from his role anytime soon, though, even with Van Nistelrooy said to have admirers behind the scenes.
