The French government has asked the European Commission for a postponement of its plans to tackle the budget deficit. This was reported by the weekly La Tribune Dimanche and confirmed by the French press agency AFP. France, like Belgium, must submit a proposal for a medium-term plan to the Commission on 20 September.
