FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Franklin County Commission approved a $485,000 bid for a new animal control facility Wednesday.
“This animal shelter is something that we’ve been needing for a long time,” Franklin County Probate Judge and Franklin County Commission Chairman Barry Moore said.
The chairman said the current facility was constructed sometime between 2001 and 2002 and is starting to see issues.
According to Moore, the county commission went to visit other animal control buildings to see what they needed to do to build a new facility.
Moore said the county commission, alongside Franklin County Animal Control Officer Joey Wingo and Franklin County Engineer Jason Baggett, made the plans for the new facility.
“It will be a new building. It will be nicer than what they have both for the employees and for the owners,” Moore said.
Moore said the location of the new facility will be near the sheriff’s office.
