YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown area residents in need of household necessities will have the opportunity to pick up some of those items this weekend.
Chauncey Phillips, with the group Colony Collective in Cleveland, was in Youngstown Tuesday looking over the parking area of Stambaugh Golf Course. He’s been working with Councilman Julius Oliver and the city’s parks department to set up the event, which will be the first in the Valley for the group.
“We have giveaways every first and third Saturday of the month in Cleveland, and we thought of bringing it down to Youngstown. I started out in Youngstown when I moved to Ohio and just wanted to give back,” Phillips said.
Some items to be given away include sanitation and household items, hygiene products and also some Amazon products.
“It helps to bridge the wealth gap. Some things people can’t afford in bulk when they go to the local stores. We give those items away for free,” Phillips said.
The first of these giveaways will take place Saturday, Nov. 16 in the parking lot of the Stambaugh Golf Course on Gypsy Lane beginning at 1 p.m. and will continue until supplies run out.
Those wanting to take advantage of the program will need to show identification and be asked to sign up for information on future giveaways.
Organizers say they’d like to schedule events every couple of months.
