Glastonbury closes riverfront due to low water levels

Glastonbury closes riverfront due to low water levels

The town of Glastonbury has closed its Riverfront Park due to low water levels and silting, according to a statement from the town.

The town announced the closure Monday, saying town staff are in the process of installing barricades to keep residents out.

Riverfront Park is home to several fields, a playground and the town’s boathouse, as well as a track and hiking trails.

“The launch will be reopened when conditions support safe use. The Town appreciates your patience and cooperation,” the announcement said.

The town also has barricades up at Cotton Hollow Preserve, which it closed indefinitely in  July. The historic area, which the town purchased in 2020, had seen unsafe and illegal activity, the town said.

During the time the preserve is closed, town officials plan to remove trash and perform maintenance on the site “and develop public safety enhancements.”
