Goodwill of Orange County is hosting a one-day donation event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 in Irvine.
The donation event is part of the organization’s 100th anniversary this year, Goodwill will be taking gently used items at its Westpark Plaza collecting site. Proceeds raised from sales support the nonprofit’s career connection and training programs across the county.
Residents from Irvine and all of OC are welcome to donate clothing, home décor and toys. Folks who get there early might even get some Goodwill OC swag.

Hospice company expanding in Orange
Graceland Hospice Care is expanding its facility at 2141 W. Orangewood Ave. in Orange.
The hospice agency, which has at least 60 employees who go into the field to visit patients in Orange and Los Angeles counties, is adding a medical clinic next to its Orange offices in order to provide non-hospice medical services to the community.
Work is expected to be done by November.

Grant will help restore Newport Bay sage scrub
The Newport Bay Conservancy was awarded $97,300 to restore 1.7 acres of degraded coastal sage scrub and wetland habitats in the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Preserve.
The Board of the California State Coastal Conservancy recently approved $48 million in grants for 22 projects statewide to “protect, restore, and improve public access along the state’s coast and coastal watersheds.”
The projects funded — from wildfire resilience to wetland restoration to lower cost coastal accommodation — will help to address the many challenges that face our iconic coastline,” said Amy Hutzel, Executive Officer of the State Coastal Conservancy.

Liz Pimentel recently was promoted to director of Partner Engagement at Financial Planning Ministry in Irvine. She joined the firm in 2010. FPM is a nonprofit partnership of national charities that works with clients on donor estate planning.
Greta Vines-Douglas is the new director of the School of Physician Assistant Studies at Marshall B. Ketchum University in Fullerton. A graduate of University of Southern California, she has served in leadership roles at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and Western University of Health Sciences.
Jennifer Phan, a board-certified gastroenterologist, is the new medical director at Hoag Irvine Advanced Endoscopy Center. She has experience in endoscopy, bariatrics and pancreaticobiliary disease. In addition, Phan also was named director of Bariatric Endoscopy and program director of the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at Hoag. Phan practices gastroenterology in Newport Beach.

Rex Chandler, Ashish Mehta and Nora Perez recently were appointed to Beyond Blindness’ board of directors. Chandler, as a medical device executive, has worked with many companies including Novartis, Boston Scientific and STAAR Surgical. Mehta specializes inpediatric ophthalmology with Kaiser Permanente in Orange County. Perez is a vice president and Community Development officer for Enterprise Bank & Trust.
Good works
Disneyland recently hosted 19 Make-A-Wish children for a multiday Star Wars-themed wish event. The Blaze Your Path: A Star Wars Adventure featured droid building, a scavenger hunt to assemble a lightsaber, surprise character visits and an immersive private dinner and dessert party in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
