Shots rang out in a park on Birmingham’s Southside late Wednesday, leaving one man dead.
South Precinct officers responded about 10:40 p.m. to a call of gunfire and people running in Brother Bryan Park on Magnolia Avenue.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said police found the victim unresponsive in the park. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.
The man was found in the northwest corner of the park, closest to 21st Street and 10th Avenue South.
Witnesses reported hearing shots fired and saw people running away from the park, but they did not see the actual shooting, Wade said. They called 911.
Wade said the victim did not have any identification on him. Though the park is popular with transients, she said there was no indication the victim was a transient.
It’s possible that the people witnesses saw running from the park were the suspects, she said.

No arrests have been made.
The deadly shooting was one of two on Wednesday. Earlier, a man was found fatally shot in southwest Birmingham street.
There have been three homicides in the city in five days. On Friday, a contract worker for the Birmingham Housing Authorities was shot to death in Collegeville.
The victim is Birmingham’s 115th homicide this year. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable and two happened in previous years and died in 2024.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 147 homicides including the 115 in Birmingham.
