Guy Gaudreau is keeping the spirit of his sons, Johnny and Matthew, alive in Philadelphia.
Gaudreau was invited by Flyers head coach John Tortorella to help out at practice, The Athletic‘s Kevin Kurz reported on Monday.
During the skate, Gaudreau appeared to be working alongside the Flyers coaching staff, including skills coach Angelo Ricci and assistant coach Rocky Thompson.
Besides talking with players and staff, Gaudreau helped retrieve pucks from the net during drills.
The Gaudreau family is closely tied to Philadelphia, especially because Johnny and Matthew grew up in nearby New Jersey. Due to their proximity to Philly, the brothers became fans of the city’s sports teams.
Additionally, Johnny and Matthew attended Boston College, where they formed a friendship with former Flyer Kevin Hayes.
Johnny, 31, and Matthew, 29, were killed Aug. 29 after they were struck by a car and killed them while bicycling on a rural road in New Jersey.
