When the first season of The Golden Bachelor premiered, fans saw an instant spark between the man of the hour Gerry Turner, and Joan Vassos. The two had a great time on the show even though it was limited. Joan Vassos had to walk away from the show and from her chance at love, leaving Gerry Turner and herself in tears. Needless to say, a connection was there.
As they say, the show must go on and it did. The Golden Bachelor proceeded with the remaining contestants and Gerry Turner narrowed it down to the woman he would go on to marry – Theresa Nist. Of course, the Bachelor Nation knows how that ended.
Gerry Turner and Joan Vassos Had a Spark
Just before the release of The Golden Bachelor’s season finale, The Hollywood Reporter released an exposé, bringing Gerry Turner’s lies to the public. Of course, this ended up affecting his image drastically. The man who was once considered a walking green flag ended up disappointing the fans with his deception.
No matter what your views may be on Turner, there is one thing we can all agree on – he had undeniable chemistry with Joan Vassos. It didn’t take long for Vassos to become a standout personality on the reality show, and right from the get-go, we rooted in her and him.
Of course, fate had other plans and she had to walk away from the show due to a family emergency. Turner and Vassos would reunite on The Golden Bachelorette where he would ask her “Have you considered the possibility that your guy is not here?” Well, well, well, that was a twist!
On Turner’s show, their one-on-one conversation was enough proof that they shared a genuine bond. Their thoughts and values aligned perfectly. After she impressed him during the group date talent show, they went on to have a nice little date where she looked as ravishing as ever in an orange dress and blonde waves that fell almost effortlessly.
The two of them left dinner with high hopes for what’s to come next but unfortunately, it didn’t work out. Vassos sat down with Turner and dropped the bomb that she would be leaving the show to look after her daughter who had just given birth. While Turner was understanding of her situation, he couldn’t help the tears that escaped his eyes and neither could Vassos.
After Vassos left, Turner ended up with Theresa Nist although that didn’t last long either. The couple ended up announcing their divorce three months after their televised wedding crediting distance as the main reason for their separation. The divorce was finalized two months later.
Gerry Turner and Joan Vassos Stayed in Touch After the Show
Vassos walking out of the show didn’t mean that she would be walking out of Turner’s life. After it was announced that she would be the first leading woman of The Golden Bachelorette, she sat down with Entertainment Tonight to reveal that she has remained in touch with the man whose love she was seeking earlier.
Revealing that they text each other “all the time,” Vassos stated that Turner remained a very good friend of hers even after fate sent them on different paths.
He’s a very, very good friend. He did this so well. He kind of created the road map that we have now. There’s no rulebook, and he kind of wrote it a little bit.
Turner, who obviously had more experience with the whole dating reality TV situation, gave a piece of pretty helpful advice to Vassos before she started her own journey on ABC’s show.
Praising him for his vulnerability, she said,
He exemplified somebody who is very open and vulnerable. He said that’s what you need to be from day one, because you don’t have a lot of time. This is a quick journey. You can’t leave anything on the table. I feel like day one, starting conversation one, everything you do here is important.
As of now, we are seeing Vassos’ journey to finding love unfold right before our eyes. The question is, will she find the one on her show or does Cupid have something special planned for her and Turner?
