Phlebitis – ‘the flubit’ in common parlance – usually occurs on the legs, sometimes on the arms. If you have it, a red, hard cord appears under your skin. “It is better to have this treated quickly, because between 10 and 15 percent of patients can develop a deep thrombosis,” says vascular specialist Dr. Sarah Thomis of the University Hospital Leuven.
