Helldivers 2 Has Officially Started Winning Players Over Once Again With the Revival of the Once Most Overpowered Weapon in the Game

Helldivers 2 is gearing up for a much-needed comeback after falling from the graces of its player base. The game came out earlier this year and has been one of the biggest hits in the live service genre for 2024. Arrowhead Game Studios’ post-launch strategy didn’t stick with fans leading to its slow downfall.

But now the devs have realized that giving players what they want might just be the right thing to do. Previously nerfed weapons like the Flamethrower and now the Railgun are getting nerfs. The initial player reaction has been very positive as fans are ready to relive the game’s former glory.

The Helldivers 2 Comeback Includes The Railgun

The first point of Helldivers 2‘s comeback was the buff to Flamethrowers. And now, the Railgun, another weapon that previously fell out of favor due to nerfs is also getting some much-needed buffs. Fans can now return to their favorite high-risk, high-reward sniper-style weapon to blast aliens.

Railgun BUFF Confirmed

Arrowhead Game Studios has confirmed that the Railgun will receive a massive buff in the next patch. Its durable damage will be increased from 60 to 225, and fully overcharging the weapon will now boost damage from 150% to a whopping 250%.

What does this mean for gameplay? For starters, the Railgun will now be a viable option again versus the game’s tankier and armored enemies. Chargers, Behemoths, and Bile Titans are enemies that take a lot of firepower to take down. But with the Railgun, players can do it in a few shots.

Even tank turrets and Hulk bodies, which typically shrug off most weapons, can now be destroyed in just a few hits. With this change, the Railgun will see more use in the average mission scenario, especially when players need some heavy firepower versus specific enemies.

Fans have received these new changes very well. Players on forums and social media have expressed their excitement, with many feeling that this buff was long overdue.

These changes could not have come at a more opportune time for Helldivers 2. After a highly successful launch, the game failed to keep fans interested with the updates that it got. With these new changes, Arrowhead hopes to recapture the spirit that made the game so popular in its early days.

Johan Pilestedt, Helldivers 2’s Chief Creative Officer has been very vocal with the community. He has admitted that nerfs have made weapons less enjoyable to use. With this update, we return to the days when the Railgun felt like a “sniper rifle on crack,” as Pilestedt poetically described it.

The September 17 update is shaping up to be a turning point for Helldivers 2. After months of player frustration, players see this patch as a long-overdue course correction that could bring back many who had left the game.

After months of dissatisfaction, players are finally getting the changes they’ve been asking for, and the future of the game looks brighter than it has in a long time.
