‘I also have hope, and that’s why I study, because being hopeless all the time doesn’t change the situation.’ Yagmur, 16, Istanbul, Turkey
As a result of a summer camp made in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut in Șumuleu Ciuc in Romania, the exhibition IN MY ROOM II – Youth between Hope and Fear, held in Bucharest until December 2nd, gives young people a place to be heard, in a society in which their needs and hopes are often left unheard. Participants opened the doors to their rooms – an allegory of their world and feelings – to the photographic duo Feli and Pepita.
Through intimate portraits, Feli and Pepita guide us toward their visions of the world, which were discussed during the summer camp, where the photographers exchanged thoughts and portrayed them. Together they delved into topics such as racism, climate crisis, and war as well as family, friendship, and the beauty and challenges of being young today.
