DETROIT — One of the most remarkable careers in baseball is set to come to an end on Sunday, as Miguel Cabrera is in the lineup one final time, as he and the Detroit Tigers finish the 2023 season against the Cleveland Guardians.

There is no question Miguel Cabrera is on his way to the Baseball Hall of Fame. His character, on and off the field, also made him one of the most likable characters in the game. The Venezuelan has done everything from winning back-to-back American League MVPs in 2012 and 2013, to reaching the 3,000-hit mark. Cabrera’s 3,174 hits place him 16th in Major League history, and is one of the 28 members of the 500-HR club. There is no question he will go down as one of the greatest players, not just in Tigers’ history, but one of the best to play the game.
The Tigers are playing their best baseball of the season, a shame that it is coming this late. That said, it shows the potential for a great future. Their 17-10 record in September was the team’s best record in a single month, and Detroit comes into the final day of the season having won five of their last six games.
A win on Sunday would give the Bengals the most wins in a single season since the last time they finished second in the American League Central, that coming in 2016.
It was indeed a massive drop-off for the Guardians, who won the division a year ago. No matter the result of their season finale, Cleveland will have the franchise’s worst winning percentage in 11 years.
PROBABLE STARTERS
- DET: Eduardo Rodriguez (12-9, 3.40 ERA)
- CLE: Lucas Giolito (8-14, 4.77 ERA)
