Hugh Freeze had one word to describe his Auburn defense: Sloppy.
New Mexico, through three quarters anyway, rolled up 400 yards of offense and a touchdown but trailed 31-13.
“We got two good possessions offensively,” Freeze said. “Defensively, we’re sloppy. Really sloppy.
“We got to play better on defense, but I do think the two offensive drives were really efficient. Hoping to get the ball back and we put it away.”
As if to hammer away Freeze’s point, and on cue, the Auburn defense committed a personal foul before New Mexico scored its second touchdown of the game.
“We’re doing some not-very-smart things football-wise that we have to get corrected,” Freeze said.
The Tigers, which committed eight penalties for 83 yards, led 31-19 after the second New Mexico touchdown.
