Huntsville City Council announces holiday light contest

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville City Council invites residents to display their holiday spirit by participating in the Deck the Districts holiday light competition.

“Deck the Districts is a wonderful way for Huntsville to come together and celebrate the season,” City Council President John Meredith said. “This gives our residents the chance to not only brighten their homes, but also inspire their neighbors to spread their own holiday cheer. It’s a festive, fun tradition that will make our city shine even brighter this holiday season.”

The contest is open to homeowners across all five districts. Participants are encouraged to creatively deck the exterior of their homes with boughs of holly and festive lights and decorations.

Residents looking to participate can complete the online entry form and submit photos of their holiday light displays. City Council staff will judge entries the week of Dec. 9, with winners announced during the City Council meeting on Dec. 19.

Each district winner will get a special prize, a festive decorative yard sign and bragging rights for next year.
