Fans remember Wyatt Russell in Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, but many also recognize him as the son of Hollywood icon, Kurt Russell. Growing up exposed to the spotlight, he had every opportunity of seeing his father star in various films.
With all the projects his father did during his glorious heydays, the 38-year-old former ice hockey player has a special fondness for one title that many fans are not so familiar with.
Wyatt Russell Names Used Cars as His Father’s Best Movie
While guesting at The Dan Patrick Show for the promotion of the MonsterVerse streaming series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Kurt and Wyatt Russell shared a bit of their bond as father and son, with the younger one revealing his favorite movie of his dad.
Apparently, of all the blockbuster hits and critically acclaimed movies his father has done, he chose Robert Zemeckis’ Used Cars as the sole masterpiece. The 1980 satirical black comedy film starred the older Russell as Rudy Russo, a devious salesman working for Jack Warden’s Luke Fuchs.
The film performed moderately at the box office with a gross of $11.7 million against a budget of $8 million. The critical reviews were also average at best, but it’s no wonder why it became a cult movie. The title isn’t widely known by many, and perhaps only solid fans of Russell or Zemeckis know its existence. Regardless, its dark and cynical humor shaped it as to what it is.
The John Walker actor told the show that he’s got the whole script of the movie etched on his mind. “I could quote every line from the movie,” he said before adding that the humor in the story is so close to Zemeckis’ and his dad’s comedic sense. Finally, he claimed that “everything about that movie to me is perfect.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy star revealed he had a blast doing that project. He initially wasn’t well-versed in comedy, but his experience on the set taught him how comedy films are made. Even though it wasn’t a massive blockbuster, Russell still went home acquiring a new skill and a great addition to his filmography.
On the other hand, his son was just so happy to watch his old man have fun and flaunt his natural talent in comedy.
Kurt Russell on Working With His Son
Having a celebrity father can be tough, but Wyatt Russell is very fortunate to have a supportive parent who loves collaborating with him. In an interview with GQ, Kurt Russell said he found himself watching an actor instead of his son and told himself how good the young lad was when they starred in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Interestingly, they played the same character in the series and the 73-year-old actor thought it was the fun in that project. He also said, “It’s really easy with Wyatt.”
