A MUM who lost her leg in a horror crash is suing a driver for more than £1million to pay for prosthetics for life.
Thomas Granger, 47, was racing at more than twice the speed limit when his BMW ploughed into pedestrian Kerrie Lavery, 25, at 81mph, severing her right limb.
Granger was jailed for 33 months and banned from driving for seven years after the October 2021 smash, which also broke the pelvis of Kerrie’s pal Alanah Boyle, 29.
Lawyers acting for Ms Lavery launched a claim for compensation at the Court of Session in Edinburgh earlier this month.
It is understood the sum sued for aims to cover the cost of prosthetics for the rest of Kerrie’s life.
Lawyers also hope to recover compensation for lost earnings.
Law firm Digby Brown said: “For three years Kerrie has shown a strength few others can comprehend and she has shown remarkable resilience and positivity throughout her recovery.
“The loss of a limb is a truly life-changing injury and it is only right that an affected person gets the support, treatment and compensation they deserve – especially when that injury was the fault of someone else.
“This is why a court action has now been raised on Kerrie’s behalf and we will continue to support her to ensure she accesses the best care and most positive future possible.”
Granger pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by driving dangerously and failing to stop.
Jailing Granger earlier this year, Sheriff William Gallacher said: “This can only be described as disgraceful.”
After the brute was jailed Kerrie said: “The collision has had a profound impact but I have tried my best to stay positive and keep leading as normal a life as possible.”
Life-changing doesn’t have to mean ‘life-ending’.”
