However, Manganiello refuted these claims in a subsequent interview, emphasizing that he had vowed to support Vergara through anything and had never taken issue with her decision not to have kids.
Joe Manganiello Refutes Sofia Vergara’s Claims Regarding Their Split
After announcing their separation, Sofia Vergara reflected on the factors that contributed to her split from Joe Manganiello. She shared that while her ex-husband wanted children, she did not want to be an “old mom.”
“I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore,” she told El Pais. The revelation sparked extensive media coverage and public scrutiny of Manganiello.
However, the True Blood star refuted her claims, stating, “That’s simply not true.” In an interview with Men’s Journal, he shared that they had discussed their views on having children, and he had assured her that he would support her decision.
If you’re done with kids, then I understand. Just tell me, and I’ll know what this is, and that’s okay.’ But that wasn’t the case with her. And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out. And I didn’t.
While he admitted that he did want kids, and they tried to start a family initially in their marriage, he also emphasized that he respected the Griselda star’s choice not to have kids.
Joe Manganiello Expressed Frustration Over Misrepresentation of His Divorce
Further in his conversation with Men’s Journal, Joe Manganiello shared that there was more to his divorce from Sofia Vergara than what had been suggested in her interview.
He emphasized that rather than the complexities over the decision of whether to have kids or not, they simply grew apart, suggesting that the spark they once had faded.
“It’s because two people grew apart, and sometimes that happens,” he said. The actor also expressed how misrepresentations of their split have damaged his public image, portraying him as someone who pressured his wife into making drastic choices.
To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turned to somebody and gave them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone’? That’s never who I was.
The couple finalized their divorce in April 2024 and have since moved on. Vergara is now dating orthopedic surgeon Dr. Justin Saliman and Manganiello is in a relationship with actress-model Caitlin O’Connor.
