Sandra Bullock is one of the most prolific actresses in Hollywood. The Speed star gained notoriety for her charming off-screen persona as well as her penchant for romantic comedies such as Miss Congeniality, The Proposal, and more. She also went to the dramatic category with films like Gravity and The Blind Side, the latter of which won her an Oscar.
After winning her Oscar, Bullock underwent a dreadful divorce from her then-husband Jesse James. The highly publicized separation reportedly took such a toll on the actress that she was considering quitting acting. However, she was convinced by the Tom Hanks-starrer Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
Sandra Bullock Almost Quit Acting After Her Divorce
Sandra Bullock is best known for her work in the late ‘90s and early 2000s. Bullock established herself as one of the highest-paid actresses in the world after starring in modern-day classics like Speed, The Proposal, Birdbox, and more. She even won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for The Blind Side.
However, Bullock reportedly underwent a tumultuous separation from her husband and TV personality Jesse James, who was reportedly accused of cheating on her (via People). The Gravity star reportedly had such a terrible time during the highly publicized separation that she almost considered leaving the business and quitting acting.
She mentioned in an interview with THR that she was in a bad place when the offer for Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. She said,
I was perfectly content to be permanently broken. I honestly didn’t think I was in a place where I wanted to work or wanted to step out of where I was. I wasn’t prepared. But the opportunity was louder than my head.
Bullock then mentioned that the Tom Hanks-starrer was a great way for her to ‘get back on the horse’ and mentioned that it was hard for her to participate in the film.
Sandra Bullock’s Ex-Husband Claimed That The Allegations On Him Were Untrue
Sandra Bullock was at the height of her career and was a contender for the Oscar due to her role on The Blind Side when allegations of infidelity were made against her husband, Jesse James. The noted TV host was reportedly accused by multiple women who claimed that he had affairs with them, leading Bullock to pull out of the premiere of the film (via People).
James had denied allegations at the time but gave out a statement apologizing to Bullock and his children for embarrassing them. He said to People,
This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them. I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them. I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.
However, despite James’ claims of being innocent, Bullock filed for divorce in 2010 after five years of marriage (via People).
