I wasn’t going to pay hundreds for a pram so picked up a £260 one for FREE, but trolls are ‘appalled’ by the state of it

A MUM who picked up a £260 pram for free has defended herself against “appalled” trolls.

Emma explained that she needed a pram for her two kids, so when she saw someone was giving away their Joie EvaLite DUO, she jumped at the chance to nab it.

And as an added bonus, the pram was completely free.

But after sharing videos of the pram on TikTok, Emma quickly found herself attacked by people who said she’d have been better off buying one for free.

“Think you was better off buying new hun, tbh – it’s dirty and broken,” one person wrote.

Emma then responded in another video, as she said: “Right, how is that pram dirty?

“Just because the hoods are faded and them joey prams are known for the hoods fading on them, but I’m gonna dye them and I’m gonna make that pram look brand new again, like it was for free.

“Like we live in such a society where it’s like, aw the hoods are faded, let’s just throw it away and buy brand new.

“No, I am gonna make that pram look brand new again and I’m gonna dye the hoods, there’s a few scratches on the frame which I’m just gonna buy a black marker and just scribble them out.

“So no, the pram isn’t dirty and it’s not broken and it’s perfect for my babies.”

“But it was there was mildew all over the back of seat and inside the hood?” someone else commented.

“How comes you put your kids in a pram that you got for free and it’s not even clean?” another wrote.

“Genuinely curious as it could have been in a shed with mould/rats?”

“Nothing wrong for free but it’s covered in mould – you need to clean it,” someone else agreed.

“The white stuff is mould, I’d of cleaned it first,” another wrote.

“It’s a 3rd of 4th hand pram gives me the ick.”

Emma replied that she hadn’t seen the mould on the pram, and had cleaned it thoroughly before her kids had sat in it.

“Well I did not know that and for your information it’s all clean now,” Emma said.

Five savvy mum hacks to save you a fortune

ANY parent knows just how pricey it can be to feed the kids – especially if they’re a fan of branded, expensive products. But there are a few hacks that can help save you money, as mum-of-two and Fabulous Digital Senior Reporter Sarah Bull explained:

Batch cook

This is a hack that lots of mums, including myself, swear by. One thing I like to do is batch cook a tomato sauce – hiding a load of vegetables inside, including carrots, peppers and onion. Once it’s cooled, pop it into an ice cube tray to freeze. Then you can pop out the portions and bag up – ready to use for anything from a pasta sauce to a pizza base.

Home Happy meal

You’d be hard pushed to find a kid who doesn’t like McDonald’s. But with Happy Meals now priced at £3.89 each, it can be pricey getting them for your children – especially if you’ve got more than two. But why not try making your own home? Keep the packaging from your last trip to McDonald’s and cook up some chicken nuggets and fries in the air fryer. Pop a budget toy in a little bag and serve with a Fruit Shoot for a budget-friendly at home Happy Meal.

Make use of leftovers

If you’re savvy enough to plan things in advance, you can make use of leftovers to keep your kids sustained for another day. If you make something like pizza, for example, why not make enough for lunch the next day too? Lots of kids actually prefer cold pizza, and it’s especially useful if you make packed lunches for yours.

Get the kids involved

Not specifically a budget hack, but one that I’ve found always helps encourage kids to eat things they haven’t tried before. I’ve cooked things like fajitas, and put the ingredients all in different bowls, before getting the kids to make their own. While I’ve put out their favourites – like chicken, cheese and cucumber – I’ve also popped pepper and lettuce in a bowl. And, much to my delight, they both sampled that in their fajitas. What a score!

Ditch the brands

One thing that can make shopping much more expensive than it needs to be is going for branded products. We always used to be a family that swore by Heinz ketchup, refusing to go for anything else, but with the price of that shooting up, we’ve swapped for supermarket own brand ketchup and saved loads – especially considering how much of it we get through. If your kids are less than willing to make that swap, why not put the unbranded product in the branded product’s packaging and see if they notice the difference?

She was also planning to dye the hoods black to conceal the fading, and was going to go over the scratches with black Sharpie pen.

Another troll questioned why Emma was “moaning” if she got the pram for free, to which she replied: “I am NOT moaning.

“I am so grateful I’ve got that pram because I’ve wanted that Joie pram for the longest time.

“And I’m so glad I’ve got it, but I was just simply asking for advice. Like whether I could wash the hoods and dye them. And whether the seat is normally like that on them prams.

“Like I was just simply asking for advice, so I’m not moaning about it.”
