HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Jail records show a man charged with capital murder in an August 2023 shooting in Huntsville was booked into the Madison County Jail on Friday.
The Huntsville Police Department said Damon Andrew Blinks, 28 of Greencastle, Indiana was charged with capital murder in a shooting that happened in the 300 block of Quality Circle around 10:40 p.m. on August 28, 2023.
At the time Blinks was arrested, HPD said he would be extradited back to Huntsville at a later date and booked in the Madison County Jail on the capital murder charge.
Madison County Jail records show Blinks was booked at 3:49 p.m. on Friday.
According to police, officers responded to Quality Circle around 7 a.m. the day after the shooting took place and found Devin Tyler McDonald, 23, lying in the parking lot unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An HPD spokesperson said Major Crimes investigators believe Blinks fled to Indiana in McDonald’s vehicle following the shooting. He was taken into custody by authorities in Indiana on Aug. 30, and McDonald’s vehicle was recovered in Blinks’s possession.
According to jail records from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Blinks was facing charges for theft: possession of stolen property, resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and unlawful carrying of a handgun in Indiana.
Blinks is being held with no bond at the Madison County Jail.
