It Needs Henry Cavill and Guillermo del Toro

In the vast universe of Warhammer 40,000, where the grim darkness of the far future reigns supreme, there’s one tale that has long captured the imagination of fans: the story of Stanley Kubrick’s fascination with the franchise. The legendary director, known for his meticulous attention to detail and groundbreaking visuals, once hinted at the possibility of bringing the Warhammer 40K universe to the big screen.

But what if we told you that Kubrick’s vision could still come to life? And that it would require the combined talents of two modern-day masters of their craft: Henry Cavill and Guillermo del Toro.

The story of Stanley Kubrick‘s interest in Warhammer 40K dates back to the 1990s when the director met with British author Ian Watson, who had written several novels set in the Warhammer universe. During their conversation, Kubrick reportedly uttered the words that have since become the stuff of legend among Warhammer fans:

Who knows, Ian? Maybe this is my next movie.

While Kubrick sadly passed away before he could bring his vision to life, the idea of a Kubrick-directed Warhammer 40K movie has remained a tantalizing “what if” scenario for fans. The director’s unique style and uncompromising approach to filmmaking could have been the perfect fit for the grim, dystopian world of the 41st millennium.

But what would it take to bring Kubrick’s vision to life in the modern era? Enter Henry Cavill and Guillermo del Toro.

Henry Cavill, the star of The Witcher and Man of Steel, is a well-known Warhammer 40K fanatic. The actor has spoken openly about his love for the franchise and his desire to bring it to the screen in a way that is faithful to the source material. With Cavill’s passion for the project and his star power, it is beyond a shadow of a doubt that he could be the driving force behind a Warhammer 40K movie that does justice to the franchise’s rich lore and complex characters.

But to truly capture the visual splendor of the Warhammer 40K universe, you need a director with a unique vision and a mastery of creature design. That’s where Guillermo del Toro comes in. The Oscar-winning director behind Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water has a proven track record of bringing fantastical worlds to life on the big screen.

Imagine what del Toro could do with the Tyranids, the insectoid alien race that threatens to devour the galaxy. Or the Orks, the green-skinned brutes who live for nothing but war and carnage. And let’s not forget the Chaos Daemons, the twisted entities that serve the dark gods of the Warp. With del Toro’s visionary approach to monster design, these iconic Warhammer 40K creatures could be brought to life in a way that is both terrifying and awe-inspiring.

Of course, all we’re doing is “imagining a realm of possibilities” at this point. But the idea of a Warhammer 40K movie helmed by Henry Cavill and Guillermo del Toro is the kind of thing that fans dream about. It would be a project that honors the legacy of Stanley Kubrick while bringing the iconic and vast universe to a whole new audience.

So what do you think, Warhammer fans? Is a Cavill-del Toro collaboration the key to making Kubrick’s vision a reality? Or do you have your own dream duo/team in mind for a Warhammer 40K movie? Let us know in the comments below!
