However, he himself has a favorite filmmaker, and it’s not what others would assume.
Unlike other big shots in the industry like Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan, it’s Jordan Peele who has made Spielberg his biggest fan.
Not Martin Scorsese but Jordan Peele Is Steven Spielberg’s Favorite Director
With his career spanning several decades, Steven Spielberg‘s filmmaking success is unparalleled. Further, with several well-acclaimed projects and three Academy Awards under his belt, he’s set the golden standard of filmmaking in the industry.
While his success in Hollywood is remarkable, he also acknowledges that his work has been influenced by several other filmmakers before him.
For instance, his style of direction heavily features elements of other filmmakers such as David Lean, Akira Kurosawa, and John Frankenheimer, to name a few. But in contrast to this, Spielberg wants modern filmmakers to craft their own path in the industry, rather than following him.
So, when he was asked about his favorite director in the industry (via Time), he named Jordan Peele instead of choosing big names such as Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino. He added:
He has found a way to take a popular concept right from the culture and give it the Jordan Peele spin. (Spielberg continued) Kind of like the peel off the rind, and you find a really original thought inside every single one of his films. I think other filmmakers like Jordan; that’s the hope for the future.
With his standout take on Get Out, Us, and Nope, comedian and director Jordan Peele quickly became well-known for his unique approach to movies. Spielberg further added that Peele can easily take a concept and present it with his own spin.
Peele’s 2022-released science fiction horror movie Nope pays homage to Steven Spielberg’s earlier works but still manages to showcase his own take and individuality on the concept.
Eve Hewson Eyed for Spielberg’s Upcoming Project
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Eve Hewson is in early talks to star in Steven Spielberg’s untitled event film, and the buzz is already exciting. The actress has recently showcased her talent in Netflix’s The Perfect Couple alongside Nicole Kidman and Dakota Fanning.
Further, if this deal goes through, it will be a reunion for Hewson and Spielberg, who previously worked together on Bridge of Spies.
In this movie, the filmmaker directed Tom Hanks in a gripping Cold War drama about espionage and high-stakes exchanges. While details about this new project remain tightly under wraps, it’s confirmed that Spielberg is behind the story with the screenplay penned by David Koepp, the man behind Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds.
Also, Kristi Krieger, known for her work on The Fabelmans, would be the producer for the project. For the untitled movie, Universal Pictures has set a wide release date for May 15, 2026.
This upcoming film follows Spielberg’s critically acclaimed The Fabelmans, which earned him seven Oscar nominations in 2022, including nods for Best Picture and Best Director. Fans are eagerly awaiting what Spielberg will deliver next, and with Hewson in the mix, anticipation is already high.
