It’s Time to Hate Marvel for Ditching Original Concept Design for Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel Costume

The Marvel Cinematic Universe had been going through a rocky journey following the Infinity Saga. It hit its lowest when The Marvels failed to break even in its theatrical run. While the 2023 film failed for many reasons, some newly released concept arts suggest that Marvel could have done better with the Brie Larson film by choosing the originally planned costume designs.

Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, many Marvel fans believed that the glory days might be back. However, the latest Agatha All Along series’ release on Disney+ has again raised an internet outrage among fans.

Additionally, the canceled costume design for The Marvels’ characters establishes that the Kevin Feige cartel has made many bad decisions recently.

Since her introduction to the MCU, Brie Larson‘s Captain Marvel did not have a pleasant journey. Fans did not like the character’s overpowered nature and attitude. Although the first film succeeded due to the Infinity War hype, Carol Danvers failed to attract a fanbase like that of Tony Stark or Steve Rogers.

Despite containing a major cameo in its mid-credits scene, The Marvels could not earn more than $206 Million (see Box Office Mojo). Recently, many new concept arts went viral on the internet revealing that the characters were supposed to don some different costumes in the film. While it cannot be said that these costumes could save The Marvels from being a disaster, they could have given us some iconic looks in a superhero film.

The concept arts revealed that the makers originally planned to give sexier sleeveless costumes to Maria Rambeau and Carol Danvers along with a cool trench coat to Monica Rambeau. Brie Larson looks stunning in the art, and her look also resembles Captain Marvel‘s outfit in the current Marvel comics.

Recently, Marvel Studios did a fabulous job with the legendary Wolverine costume in Deadpool & Wolverine. The studio also earned praise for adding more vibrance to Deadpool’s classic red suit. The Marvels‘ original plan was a golden opportunity for the MCU to gain more praise for its recent costumes.

The post-Avengers: Endgame era gave countless reasons even to hardcore fans to criticize the MCU. Starting from churning out numerous unnecessary shows like She-Hulk and Agatha All Along, to poor VFX and bad creative decisions, the House of Iron Man suffered a lot.

With the release of the OG costume designs of Brie Larson and her The Marvels co-stars, fans have questioned the studio’s decision to miss out on such cool choices. Here are some fan reactions on X.

Even though the collections of The Marvels have been disastrous, Brie Larson said to The Playlist, “There’s things that I know, but I can’t tell you” regarding the character’s future. While it is unlikely that we will get any Captain Marvel threequel soon, the MCU can utilize the sleeveless suit to make an iconic entry scene for Larson’s superheroine in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.

The Marvels can be streamed on Disney+.
