Jamie Lee Curtis Deserves Her Emmy But the Category Makes Absolutely No Sense to The Bear Fans

Heading into the 2024 Emmys, The Bear cooked up 23 nominations, setting the record for most nominations by a comedy series in a single year. However, fans haven’t been too keen about the comedy label on the acclaimed show, for which Jamie Lee Curtis has now scored her first Emmy win.

Having dominated the last Emmys with 6 wins, the show has now scored seven wins at Creative Arts Emmys, which involved wins for casting, picture editing, sound mixing, and guest stars. But while fans applaud Curtis’ win for her brilliance in The Bear, in which she portrayed the alcoholic mother of Carmy, Sugar, and Mikey, fans are once again irked by the category.

Despite its domination at the Emmys last year, fans weren’t thrilled about the show being labeled as a comedy, as many voiced that it should’ve competed with other biggies of the night. Similar is the sentiment this year, as The Bear is competing for the title of Outstanding Comedy again. But at the Creative Arts Emmy, Jamie Lee Curtis secured her first Emmy win, as she took home the accolade for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy.

While fans had no problem with her win, with most agreeing she deserved the accolade, not many are thrilled about the show still being recognized as a Comedy at the Emmys.

As for her first Emmy win, the Everything Everywhere All At Once star expressed that she feels like the luckiest girl in the world, stressing she is grateful for these opportunities in the last couple of years.

I’m the luckiest girl in the world. I’ve been an actor since I was 19. I’m 65. I sold yogurt that makes you shit for seven years, and I just never thought in my life that I would get to do work at this level, depth and complexity and intelligence. It’s just been the thrill of my creative life these last couple years that I get these opportunities, so I’m humble and incredibly grateful.”

Although fans will hope Curtis continues to excel in the coming years, fans still remain bamboozled by The Bear‘s comedy tag, and there seems to be a very simple explanation behind it.

The Most Plausible Explanation Behind The Bear’s Comedy Label

Although The Bear had its moments of laughs, at the core, the show is extremely stress-inducing, which follows the frenetic lives of the characters at a Gourmet Restaurant. As for its comedy label at Emmys, it’s important to note that the Television Academy plays no role when it comes to choosing what categories a show should compete in. So we’ve FX to blame for it, as the network submitted The Bear as a comedy at the Emmys.

As for why? to hoard accolades obviously, as the Comedy category is comparatively less competitive than drama.

The Bear is available to stream on Hulu.
