Jennifer Lopez has been in several high-profile relationships, and lately, her divorce from Ben Affleck is the talk of the town. Having gotten together the second time, their relationship was poised as the endgame, but as fate would have it, things ended just as fast as they began. While Lopez deals with yet another broken relationship, the recent arrest of Sean Diddy Combs has spelled more trouble for the singer.
Once arrested for a shooting outside of a club alongside Combs, the duo’s past relationship has come back into the limelight. Recently, a video of Lopez’s old interview resurfaced on the internet, where she remarked how she did not like Diddy during their initial days of acquaintance.
Jennifer Lopez Was Not Fond of Diddy When They First Met
Jennifer Lopez is just as famous for her relationships as she is for her film and music career. Having dated quite a few well-known celebrities, the actress-singer once dated the infamous rapper Sean Diddy Combs back in 1999. Having met on the sets of Lopez’s If You Had My Love, their relationship ended just after two years in 2001.
While they apparently ended up befriending each other, there was once a time when Lopez disliked the music mogul. In an old interview, while talking about Diddy, The Wedding Planner star revealed,
You know I’m not gonna lie. I didn’t like him at all… because.. Sean and I were very different that way. I was very like family-oriented… That’s who I was, that’s how I was raised.
However, her feelings soon changed when she got to know Diddy on a personal level, as she stated in the now resurfaced interview.
Once I got to know him… We developed this bond, we both understood where we were at that time in our lives and we both knew nobody else understood exactly how we felt.
Despite their bond, the duo ended up going their separate ways. Lopez, later in an interview with Vibe magazine (via Entertainment Weekly), revealed that it was Diddy’s unfaithfulness that made her take the step. In her 2024 documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, Lopez talked about an ex who would manhandle her, and many believe the singer was referring to Diddy without taking any names.
Jennifer Lopez Worried after Sean Diddy Combs’ Arrest
Sean Diddy Combs might have built a grand musical empire for himself, propelled a lot of artists to success, and encashed a lot of big bucks, but he has largely remained a controversial figure. His past has particularly came back to haunt him in the worst possible way ever since his ex-girlfriend filed a lawsuit against him last year (see Rolling Stone).
Now arrested on charges of racketeering, s*x trafficking, and more, there is a possibility his past lawsuits might be reopened to be investigated. Back in 1999, Diddy and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez were arrested following a shooting inside a Times Square club. While pretty much everyone made it out unharmed, a former rapper and close friend of Diddy, Shyne Barrow, was arrested and jailed (see Forbes).
As per the New York Post, there is a possibility that the case can be investigated given the recent federal probes into Combs’ life. A source close to the Daily Mail alleges that Lopez is on high alert given the possibility of such an event and has her team working on preparing a possible defense in case their past resurfaces.
