To this day, Carey keeps fueling her rivalry with Lopez by seemingly taking pleasure in Lopez’s recent struggles. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, a source revealed that Carey is more excited than ever about her new concert dates, which just adds more fuel to the competition between the two.
Married to Ben Affleck since 2022, Lopez is now going through a divorce with him, and recently had to cancel her This Is Me … Live tour. Carey seems to be suggesting that this is the karma Lopez deserves, while also showing off that, despite the passage of time, she’s still in a better place than her.
A source close to both revealed:
She believes it’s karma biting her in the butt because she’s not as talented as she thinks and way too arrogant. For J. Lo it’s a huge big kick in the teeth to Mariah making all these huge concert plans, especially because she knows how much she’s been trash talking her and laughing about her divorce to boot.
The source also said that Carey loved the fact that her rival was “failing.”
The Drama Between Jennifer Lopez And Mariah Carey Goes Way Back
The competition between both singers has been ongoing for years, with Carey often making a point to showcase it. Back in 1999, she commented on Lopez’s performance in the movie Selena, calling it a dubbing, and implying that they weren’t in the same league as artists.
The singer and actress even responded that she had no beef with Carey:
I don’t have a feud against her at all. I know from back in the day, I’ve read things that she’s said about me that were not the greatest, but we have never met. Like, we don’t know each other. I think it’s kind of from word of mouth of things that have happened in the past that I’m not really aware of. I would love to meet her, and I would love to be friends with her. I think she’s incredibly talented, and I’ve always been a fan of hers.
While Lopez has occasionally addressed the topic, Carey’s responses to questions about the rivalry have often seemed shady to many, even today.
When asked about the artist in the 2000s, Carey simply said she didn’t know her — which became one of the biggest memes on the internet. In 2016, during an interview on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the star clarified their situation:

The quarrel supposedly began when Carey was working on her album Glitter with her ex-husband Tommy Mottola, who allegedly used samples from the project in a Lopez song.
