New York Jets’ 24-17 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday was a tough game for linebacker C.J. Mosley. The former Theodore High School and Alabama standout left the game with a toe injury that kept him out of the Jets’ Thursday night game against the New England Patriots, and, on Saturday, the NFL announced Mosley had been fined $16,833 for a tackle against the Titans.
The NFL said Mosley was fined for a hip-drop tackle, which became illegal for the 2024 season, although the linebacker was not penalized on the field for the tackle.
Three other players with Alabama football roots were fined by the NFL for transgressions in Week 2 games:
· Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold (Alabama) was fined $11,255 for a facemask penalty in a 20-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Arnold was flagged on the field.
· Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins (Clay-Chalkville) was fined $11,817 for unnecessary roughness in a 19-13 victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night. Collins was penalized on the field.
· Arizona Cardinals linebacker Mack Wilson (Carver-Montgomery, Alabama) was fined $11,255 for taunting during a 41-10 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Wilson was penalized on the play.
The NFL announced fines for 30 players on Saturday from Week 2.
The NFL uses a collectively bargained schedule of fines to determine the amount of monetary punishment.
