Jordie Benn is officially hanging up his skates.
The 37-year-old made the announcement in an interview with Paul Haysom of CHEK News, calling his career “a really fun ride.”
Undrafted to the NHL, he made his debut in 2012 after being called up by the Dallas Stars, where he played with his younger brother Jamie for several seasons.
Benn eventually went on to play for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs. Across his 12-year NHL career, the defenceman recorded 137 points (26 goals and 111 assists) in 607 games.
“A lot of people thought I never should have made it, and maybe I shouldn’t have, but I just worked as hard as I could every night and tried to be the best teammate possible,” Benn told Haysom.
A native of Victoria, B.C., Benn spent the 2023-24 season in Sweden and won a championship with Brynas IF.
