LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Limestone County judge has ordered that a rock quarry in Belle Mina can move forward after he rejected a motion for an injunction blocking the development.
In an order on Monday, Circuit Judge Matthew Higgins ruled that a rock quarry planned to go in the Belle Mina community in Limestone County can move forward. The decision comes after a hearing on a potential preliminary injunction pausing the quarry on Friday.
In his order, Higgins pushed back against the plaintiff’s claims that the quarry would be near a public school or a TVA Industrial Development Megasite, both of which would have made the quarry uncompliant with state law regarding the placement of quarries in Limestone County.
The decision comes as a blow to members of the Belle Mina community who have opposed the quarry, with many saying the construction on the quarry has been disruptive to their daily lives.
