Fans are pretty sure that the man with the stringy white hair in the trailer of Tom Hardy‘s Venom: The Last Dance is Knull. The film is under pressure to deliver a fitting ending to the trilogy that kept SSU alive despite the Morbius and Madame Web disasters. Fans believe that the film aims to go out with a bang by bringing in the final boss, the God of all Symbiotes.

Besides spotting the character in a blink-and-miss moment around the one-minute mark, fans also strengthened their suspicion when Venom mentioned his “creator”. Fans were further pushed down the rumor mill when @SoulessCinema reported The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus will play the character. While many deemed the report completely unfounded, fans still carry hope for the incredible actor in the role.

Knull co-creator Ryan Stegman joined the discussions surrounding the character. He shared that he had no idea that his character was debuting in films until he saw the rumors. Stegman joked that he could now afford a lazy river moat around his house.

When a user pointed him towards the tweet that reported Norman Reedus in the role, Stegman expressed his doubts. He asked the user if the report was confirmed.

While the rumor about Reedus got much traction on social media, another actor was also popularly rumored to play the character. Some sections of fans are pretty sure that Rhys Ifans, who played Otto Highwater in House of the Dragon, is playing the role of Knull (via IGN). It was reported that Ifans joined the film in a secret role.

In Marvel Comics, Knull is the god of darkness who created the symbiotes. He existed in the primordial void between the Sixth and Seventh Cosmoses until he was awakened by the Celestials invading his kingdom of darkness. According to the lore, Knull created the symbiotes to wage war against the Celestials who brought light into his kingdom of darkness.

He is connected to the current Marvel Universe as he’s the creator of the Necrosword seen in the possession of Gorr the God-Butcher in Thor 4. When he lost the sword and became stranded on a nameless planet, he experimented with his powers and created a Hive of parasitic creatures that he could control.

Knull forms a fleet of Symbiote Dragons, two of which arrive on Earth and have an encounter with Thor. The God of Thunder defeats them, resulting in Knull losing connection to all the symbiotes. The symbiotes eventually turn on Knull and trap him at the core of the throneworld.

In the comics, Eddie Brock frees the Knull due to the actions of Carnage. The villain arrive on Earth and come face-to-face with the Earth’s heroes. The battle ends in Eddie’s death, something which fans anticipate to happen in Venom 3. Eddie will later be revived by the God of Light, who gives him the power to destroy Knull.

Venom: The Last Dance is scheduled to be released on October 25, 2024.
