Komi Can’t Communicate Becomes the Latest Victim of the Manga Industry After it Ruined Tite Kubo’s Vision with Bleach

Komi Can’t Communicate is one of the most renowned animanga when it comes to the romance genre. There are various romance stories that get classified in the Shonen genre with Tomohito Oda’s story being one of them. The manga gathered a lot of fame for its slice-of-life approach and fans were hooked to the story from the first chapter.

The story about high-school students brings about a sense of thrill and reliability at the same time with the premise being both unique and captivating. The manga has been ongoing for almost a decade now with its final arc already in the works. While the release of the anime’s third season is still a mystery, the manga may be going through a rough patch.

The Decline of Komi Can’t Communicate’s Designs

It is not unusual to see mangaka and their art style evolving over time. It is only fair that as they become more used to drawing certain characters, the more refined the lines become and the sharper the design turns into. Progress and evolution in art come with practice and understanding. For Komi Can’t Communicate, the art style was something especially liked by fans.

It was unique and it told stories without actually having to give context. What stood out was Shoko Komi’s design specifically. At one glance anyone could make out that she was closed off, mysterious, and very obviously very socially inept. The art was much softer and it looked like there was a lot of care put into it.

While Tomohito Oda’s skills have certainly been upgraded since then, the manga itself has taken a brutal hit in quality. It has declined drastically with what looks like haphazard illustrations that have completely distorted what Komi used to look like at one point to what she looks like now.

The Pressure of Being a Mangaka

As a manga grows, the pressure that is put on the mangaka also increases with it. The popularity comes with deadlines and excruciating rules that cannot be avoided. Tite Kubo suffered greatly because of the same. He worked day and night to meet the deadlines, often getting sick in the process. He would break his arm and not realize about having done so. The life of a mangaka is nowhere near as easy or comfortable as it should be.

Due to the pressure, compromise either comes in the decline of one’s health or the quality of their work. Sometimes, it comes with both of them. Tomohito Oda, who also publishes the manga on a weekly basis, is not exempt from this pressure. Meeting deadlines can become horrendously difficult with no way out.

To keep up with the growing demand, it is understandable as to why the art would decline over time. Fans may be upset but it is best to understand that the manga industry is a dark void of pain and sleepless nights. On the other side of things, the mangaka may be trying his level best to give fans a good manga.

Komi Can’t Communicate is available to watch on Netflix.
