The second season of Squid Game is all set to premiere on December 26 and Netflix released the first trailer. The trailer sees the show’s breakout star Lee Jung-jae return as Seong Gi-hun and surprisingly sees him become a participant in the games once again. However, there seems to be a twist.
The makers of the thriller series have hinted at new games being a part of the series. Despite promising to take down the organization at the end of season 1, Seong Gi-hun seems to be back as a participant but is trying to get other participants to unite and boycott the games. One fan theory seems to have guessed why the games have changed.
Squid Game Season 2 Trailer Hints At Seong Gi-hun’s Plans
When Squid Game was released back in 2021, it quickly became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. The series focused on Seong Gi-hun, a gambling addict who gets the chance to earn billions of Wons by competing in a series of children’s games. However, things take a dark turn when these games come with a bloody twist.
The end of season one shows Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun vowing to bring the organization down instead of using his winnings to go to LA. The recently released trailer of season 2, however, seemed to hint at Gi-hun trying to infiltrate the games from the inside by participating again. However, some of the games seem to be different.
The trailer shows Gi-hun trying to safeguard other participants and get them to escape but faces several obstacles, mostly the competition having new games. However, one fan theory in the comment seemed to indicate why the games had changed in the competition and Gi-hun is a huge part of it.
My prediction is that the games were supposed to be the same but because Gi-hun starts spoiling it to everyone else, the frontman decides to change them

The trailer also hints at the participants’ belief that Gi-hun might have been planted by the organizers themselves and his struggle to take down the Front Man.
Lee Jung-jae Mentioned That There Would Be New Twists In Season 2
South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae became a breakout star of Squid Game after his performance as Seong Gi-hun garnered universal acclaim. He was nominated for the Golden Globes and the SAG awards for his performance, making him the first Asian male actor to be nominated in the category. So, it was natural that he would return for season 2.
The Acolyte star revealed that the second season would involve more twists and turns and a deeper emotion. He said to Radio Times,
I think the script for season 2 is even more interesting than season 1, and there is going to be a new set of characters as well. So I think the audience is going to be really excited about it. One thing I felt while reading the script is that there is an even deeper emotion that’s discovered within season 2, and also I think the audience will feel like, ‘Where is this story going?’ Because there’s so many twists and turns that happen.
With the trailer hinting at new characters with a few familiar faces, the second season is sure to be a wild ride.
Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix.
