The world was shocked when lead singer Chester Bennington died and Linkin Park went on hiatus. The fans were even more shocked when the rock band brought on Emily Armstrong as the co-lead vocalist recently.
With talks that Armstrong was allegedly a replacement for Chester Bennington, the rock band received a lot of flak. However, this isn’t the worst thing that Linkin Park has done to Chester Bennington’s legacy!
Linkin Park Did Not Even Inform Chester Bennington’s Family!
It was 2017 when Linkin Park decided to go on hiatus following lead vocalist Chester Bennington’s death. After 6 years, the rock band approached Emily Armstrong to offer her the position of co-lead vocalist of the band.
Armstrong gladly accepted the position and together, the band announced their line-up recently. Not everyone liked the idea of a replacement for Chester Bennington.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Bennington’s mother Susan Eubanks revealed that the band had promised her if they wanted to move forward with the songs.
I feel betrayed. They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I wouldn’t going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.
She further continued,
I feel like they’re trying very hard to erase the past. They’re performing songs that Chester sang. And I don’t know how the fans are taking it, but I know how I take it. And having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful.
This wasn’t the worst part since there are allegations that grief and sadness are causing Susan Eubanks to mix several events. Therefore, the hard truth might be lost somewhere and the world might never know.
Eubanks also talked about Emily Armstrong and how seeing her sing Chester Bennington’s songs hurt greatly. Susan Eubanks swears that she had no idea that the band would be adding a singer!
They Sang Chester Bennington’s Songs!
Susan Eubanks revealed that she wasn’t even informed of the decision that Emily Armstrong was going to join the band. Bennington’s mother stated that she found out about that from Google.
As the interview further continued, Eubanks thought that Mike Shinoda was going to be the next singer since Chester Bennington had taught him how to sing. Much to her surprise, the band brought on Emily Armstrong.
I actually thought maybe the band was going back out, but that Mike would be the singer; Chester did teach Mike how to sing. I thought if they were to go back out, it would just be the band not adding a singer.
The band has been getting a lot of negative reception ever since they announced Armstrong as co-lead vocalist. Although some fans are defending the argument by saying that she isn’t a replacement for Bennington, a majority of them remain unconvinced.
The band has embarked on a six-arena tour across four continents and the tour is scheduled to concluded on 11 November in Bogota, Colombia.
