COLUMBIANA, Ohio (WKBN) — As workers are putting the finishing touches on the Joy of Christmas light display in Columbiana, visitors are sure to notice a new attraction when it opens later this month.
The Iwo Jima display was donated by the American Legion. It’s a smaller version that replaces the older display.
Skip Liston is a veteran himself and is one of several volunteers who help set up the Joy of Christmas. He says it’s one of his favorite exhibits and installing the display gives him a great sense of pride each year.
“As a veteran it brings emotion. You understand what went into it. All of the people who paid for it. So as a veteran, you’re very proud,” Liston said.
Liston is an Air Force veteran, serving from 1963-1968. He spent 18 months stationed in Turkey.
You can see the new display when the Joy of Christmas opens for the season on Nov. 22.
