(WKBN) — Several local schools have been named among the top-performing elementary and middle schools in their states and across the nation.
According to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report released this month, the rankings were determined by both raw test scores and test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics, such as the percentage of students who received free or reduced-priced lunches.
Other factors considered included faculty qualifications, student-to-teacher ratios, number of counselors and student diversity.
The report also shares the number of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading and language arts state assessments.
There are 3,500 public elementary schools and 2,451 public middle schools in the state of Ohio. The assessments include rankings of top public, private and charter schools.
