GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — The annual Veterans Day service in Girard began with a wreath-laying ceremony on the Girard Viaduct.
They then proceeded to Girard City Hall where 75 people watched as the Boy Scouts raised the American flag and the Girard High School marching band played the national anthem.
Kim Burin of Liberty, who served in the Air Force in the mid-70s, laid a wreath at the War Memorial. The event sponsored by the Girard Veterans Council has been going on for many years.
“It’s important not only today but every day so we can thank our veterans for the freedoms that we enjoy every day of our lives here in the great United States of America,” said veteran Bob Stanton.
Girard Senior trumpet player Zachary Fiedler highlighted one of the final events of the ceremony with the playing of “Taps.”
