It looks like Curt Miller’s “spark” has been extinguished.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Sparks announced they have mutually parted ways with the 55-year-old head coach, who has been with the team for the past two campaigns.
The WNBA franchise will immediately begin looking for his replacement.
“On behalf of our ownership group and franchise, I would like to thank Coach Miller for his passion and commitment to the Sparks organization these past two seasons,” Governor and Managing Partner Eric Holoman said in a statement. “We wish him well moving forward.”
During Miller’s tenure, the Sparks did not qualify for the playoffs and finished with a 25-55 record. In the 2024 season, his side finished last in the league with eight wins and 32 losses.
The Pennsylvania native began his WNBA head coaching career in 2016 with the Connecticut Sun and holds a 165-141 record all-time. With the Sun, he earned the WNBA Coach of the Year Award in 2017 and 2021 while leading them to a Finals appearance in 2019.
He was the first openly gay male coach in college or professional basketball when he joined the Sun.
“I want to thank the entire Sparks organization for the opportunity to lead and help rebuild the franchise,” Miller said in a statement through the team. “I am proud of the culture created in our locker room and strongly believe the roots have been established for a bright future. The team is now positioned for success, and I wish the players the best heading into the 2025 season.”
