Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has had a meteoric fall from grace after facing multiple allegations and recently being arrested. The rapper’s plea for bail and a house arrest was reportedly rejected and he is currently imprisoned after being charged with s*x trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in pr*stitution.
Diddy’s arrest has brought his past controversies to light again. His relationship with Jennifer Lopez, who is also in the news for her divorce from Ben Affleck, has been making the rounds, including the infamous club shooting that saw them both being detained. Lopez’s mother was also reportedly staunchly against the relationship.
Jennifer Lopez Spoke Of Whirlwind Romance With Diddy
Jennifer Lopez is one of the most recognized stars in entertainment. The singer, dancer, and actress has been one of the most celebrated triple-threats who has succeeded in all of the areas she has ventured into. Her music and acting talents have received much acclaim, and her stardom as a Latina has made her culturally important.
However, with such stardom came a high level of public scrutiny into her personal life. Her relationships and marriages have been fodder for tabloid journalism, with her recent divorce from Ben Affleck being a major topic for months. With Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ recent arrest, her past relationship with the rapper has also resurfaced (via People).
While the two reportedly dated between 1999 and 2001, the relationship was particularly marred by the infamous 1999 club shooting and car chase that saw both JLo and Diddy get arrested. Lopez recounted the time in an interview with Vanity Fair,
It wasn’t a great time in my life. It was scary. And we broke up many times before that, and got back together and broke up again, and nobody knew about it. It was very tempestuous. Towards the end, it was emotionally exhausting. It was good that I was young.
She also opened up about speculations of infidelity from Diddy, saying that she was not aware if he cheated as there was barely any time amidst their relationship and his packed work schedule. However, she did admit that she was naive.
Jennifer Lopez’s Mother Was Against Her Relationship With Diddy
Jennifer Lopez has spoken about how her romantic life has been about all the men in her life vehemently pursuing her. She told Vanity Fair that even Diddy was extremely persuasive and even told her he was in love with her very early in their courtship. While she admitted to having an on-and-off relationship with him, her mother reportedly was against the union.
Guadalupe Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez’s mother, reportedly did not approve of her daughter’s relationship with Diddy. In an interview on The Wendy Show, her mother could be seen mouthing ‘It is done’ when JLo was asked about getting back together with Diddy. After the infamous arrest, a detective recalled her mother shouting at her at the station (via NY Post),
Her mother was yelling at J.Lo in Spanish and she was really mad at Jennifer. I heard her say, ‘I told you not to get involved with (him).’
The whirlwind romance seemed to have obviously rattled her mother and made her go against Diddy, which in retrospect may have been the best decision.
