RANGERS will NOT be appointing St Mirren vice-chairman Jim Gillespie as their new Chief Executive.
SunSport broke the news on August 17 that the Buddies chief was the Ibrox club’s no1 target to replace James Bisgrove.
But it’s now understood Gillespie, 46, pulled out of talks at the eleventh hour.
And Gers chairman John Bennett is now looking at alternative options for the vital role.
Bisgrove sensationally quit in May to take a big money job in Saudi Arabia, as we first revealed.
Bennett has been desperate to name his successor with Gillespie the shock leading contender.

Negotiations reached an advanced stage with the lifelong Rangers supporter set to land the job.
Gillespie is hugely experienced as an award-winning CEO with Renfrewshire care charity The Kibble.
But it’s understood he informed Bennett yesterday that he’d be staying with St Mirren.
As yet it’s unclear on why he has a last gasp change of heart.
But the twist is the last thing Bennett needs as he looks to bolster his boardroom amidst growing pressure from supporters.
Fans met last night for a Q&A with manager Philippe Clement, where the Belgian told them that they CAN still win the league title.
Ibrox chiefs have been desperate to fill the role since Bisgrove quit for a big money move to Saudi Arabia, as first revealed by SunSport.
His shock exit has coincided with Rangers’ bungled order of steel for rebuilding work at Ibrox, which has seen them temporarily rent Hampden.
The Ibrox side are now poised to return to their emotional home of Ibrox for the Premier Sports Cup clash with Dundee on September 21.
