The 40-year-old man who was shot dead by a police officer at the emergency department of the AZ Sint-Blasius in Dendermonde on the night of Friday to Saturday, had a mental history. This was confirmed by the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office. The man had asked for medical help himself. However, when he arrived at the hospital, he lost control and turned on a police officer, who then fired a shot.
