AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A man is charged after witnesses saw him running away from a vehicle accident in Austintown Thursday night.
Police were called to the intersection of North Turner Road and Smith Street shortly before 10 p.m.
A witness reported hearing a loud boom and said she went to investigate, seeing a man inside the truck that had crashed.
Police said Zachary Foster was seen running away from a crash site and that he entered the house of an acquaintance. Reports said that the resident did not wish to pursue charges for Foster entering the home, believing Foster did not have any ill intent.
Several people told police that Foster needed immediate medical attention. Reports said Foster was bleeding heavily and that his face was damaged.
Police said that blood was on the steering wheel and passenger seat of the vehicle. An ambulance took Foster to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment.
Reports said before the crash, Foster had called a woman for a ride home from a local bar on Mahoning Avenue, but he then called her back and said that someone else would give him a ride.
Police said a witness from the bar reported seeing Foster stumbling while getting in the driver’s side of his pickup truck. Police said the witness observed him drive away with no headlights on.
Reports said that Foster smelled like alcoholic beverages and that a bottle of alcohol was found in his vehicle.
Foster is charged with OVI, failure to control and having an open container in a motor vehicle. Foster is scheduled to appear in court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
