Man approaches CT police to say he was shot, declines help

A man who walked up to police officers Sunday to tell them he had been shot then became “uncooperative” and took himself to the hospital, police said.

Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department’s Media Relations Unit/Major Crimes Division, said the officers went to the 100 block of Martin Street, just before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024.

The officers went to the location after receiving a ShotSpotter notification of gunfire, Boisvert said.

The officers found evidence of gunfire at the site and, while there, the victim approached the officers to tell them he had been shot, Boisvert said.

The man, who is in his thirties, was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, and became “uncooperative” and then took himself to an area hospital for treatment, Boisvert said. Neither the man nor the hospital were identified by police.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded and took over the investigation, Boisvert said.
