A man was arrested at Bradley International Airport on Monday after he tried getting on a plane with a loaded handgun that he said he forgot was in his bag.
Troopers were dispatched to the security checkpoint of the Windsor Locks airport at 4:30 a.m. on the report of a passenger being found with a gun, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police said the handgun was found in a backpack belonging to 38-year-old Jason Hines of Ashford. The gun, which had nine rounds of 9mm ammunition in it, was discovered by Transportation Security Administration officers during the security screening process, according to state police.
Hines told troopers he forgot the firearm was in his bag, state police said. He was taken into custody and charged with circumventing airport security.
State police seized the firearm and ammunition.
Hines was later released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on Dec. 9.
