A man is facing stalking charges after police allege he sent multiple harassing emails towards a UConn student athlete over the past several months, officials said.
Robert Cole Parmalee, 40, of Washington, has been arrested and is charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree harassment and stalking. He is being held on a $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Monday.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in June after a UConn employee reported to UConn Police that members of their department had received multiple emails with references to a specific UConn student-athlete. In addition, some of the emails mentioned players in some other schools’ athletics programs. The contents of those emails have not been made public, but school officials reported they were “alarmed” by them.
UConn police determined that Parmalee has no connection to the school.
Police also communicated with several law enforcement agencies in Oregon, where Parmalee was living when sending the messages, to his whereabouts and activities, police said. On Aug. 27, state police took Parmalee into custody in Windsor Locks under an unrelated warrant in Oregon.
While initially being held for extradition to Oregon, the charges against him there were dropped and he was released from Hartford Correctional, according to state police. After being released, UConn police served their own warrant and he was taken into custody on Friday.
Parmalee remains in the custody of UConn Police.
