Man charged with stabbing caretaker to death at Akron group home: Police

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A man was arrested after investigators say a caretaker was stabbed to death at an Akron group home Friday night.

According to the Akron Police Department, officers were called to a fight at a residence described to be a group home in the 1700 block of Shaw Avenue around 9:22 p.m.

Officers received a 911 call from a woman who said she was pushed by a client at the home.

When officers got there, they found a man at the door with injuries to his hands.

The officers stepped inside and found the victim, a 56-year-old woman, who was unresponsive and suffered from an apparent stab wound. The woman, who investigators say was the caretaker who made the 911 call, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified the injured man, 34-year-old Jarel Wooden, as the suspect. After receiving medical attention, Wooden was arrested on a murder charge and taken to the Summit County jail.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released at this time.
