A 27-year-old man has been convicted in the 2018 shooting death of a man at a Fairfield gas station.
A Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff jury found Edward Levante Haywood, of Birmingham, guilty of capital murder in the slaying of 23-year-old Ronnie Deandre Weaver, a husband and father of three children.
Weaver was killed on Sept. 16, 2018.
It was just before 9:30 p.m. that Sunday at Citgo at the intersection of Valley Road and Gary Avenue when the shots rang out.

Store employees said Weaver had been at business about 30 minutes earlier putting gas in his car.
He left, and then returned.
As he was walking into the store, a vehicle drove by and opened fire. At least a dozen or more shots were fired.
Police at the time said the deadly shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute over a woman.
They identified Haywood as the suspected shooter and said Malik Terrell McKinney, now 27, was driving the vehicle.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Brent Butler and Cindy Carter. Haywood was defended by attorneys Bret Gray and Erica Gray.
Circuit Judge David Carpenter has set Haywood’s sentencing for Oct. 15.
Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty, so Haywood will be sentenced to life without parole.
McKinney pleaded guilty in 2022 to felony murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
